Mushrooms and berries

Picking mushrooms under the motto “Who will collect more?” is a kind of sport in Finland. Over 10000 foreign tourists annually come over to join in, and the mushroom season lasts till the end of November. Mushrooms are often associated with champignons, which is a big mistake. Champignons are cultivated, whereas mushrooms are an ecological natural product good in salads and for making soups.

Legend has it that the flora of Finnish woods is so rich that berries on their own jump into the baskets of berry pickers.

The berry season: July-August for blueberries and raspberries; September for cloudberries, and October till the first frosts for cranberries.

It is noteworthy that berries should by all means be heat treated before transportation.
